LDANEO and the Cuyahoga County Public Libraries partner to offer Team Read-A-Book. Second and third graders with identified learning disabilities, or who are at risk for reading problems are invited to join children’s librarians and an experienced special education teacher for an hour and a half of information and fun at Cuyahoga County area library branches. The Parent Connections program is designed to engage parents in at-risk neighborhoods in the education process, enabling them to intervene on behalf of their children at risk for specific learning disabilities. The focus of the work is with the parents of youth at-risk for SLD. Parent Connections is aimed at engaging the parents of these children who live in the neighborhoods, by educating and empowering them to become active in their child’s education. By doing so, LDANEO works in collaboration with communities and envisions that the neighborhood parents will be more engaged in the process, gain a clearer understanding of the value of education for their students at-risk for SLD and that their children, in turn, will demonstrate improved academic performance, attendance at school and the desire to earn a high school diploma.
Parent Connections is a site based program.
